OC Transpo buses stuffed full of Christmas goodies for Food Bank
There wasn much room to sit down on the OC Transpo bus parked, unusually, in front of a Merivale Rd. Loblaws.
That because Saturday was the 28th Annual Christmas Food Drive, wherein OC Transpo and Loblaws stores joined forces to raise cash and assorted edibles for the Ottawa Food Bank.
A pair of 16 year olds, Yassin Abdullah and Prakhar Adhikary, confessed that their mandated high school volunteer hours were part of the reason they had showed up to help out.
But Adhikary had enjoyed helping with a food drive for the Nepalese Can Air Max adian Association of Ottawa.
liked it the first time, he said. just an opportunity t Air Max o help. were placed under the control of volunteer co ordinator Danielle Ritz a Transpo staffer by day who armed them with candy canes to give to kids ( ask the parents first! and sent them to waylay potential donors.
Over at South Keys, Transpo driver and dispatcher Sean Edens was joined by his father Phil, a member of the city public works department.
If the Sun had showed up a bit earlier, would seen three generations, Phil Edens said proudly.
It the seventh year they been involved in the food drive; last year they filled their bus with 4,000 items.
Edens has a sideline hustling frozen turkeys for the Food Bank as well.
always people in need, especially at this time of the year, he said.
During the last fiscal year, the Food Bank distributed over 8.1 million pounds of food.
