The Model Engineering College (MEC) under the Institute of Human Resource Development (IHRD) has overcome the slump in campus hiring, with over 95 per cent of the final year students bagging plum offers.
MEC, which remains top in the list of most sought after colleges among recruit Air Max ers, has earned this achievement at a time when companies have cut down on hiring in view of the uncertain business environment.
Gokul Das, placement c Air Max ell student co ordinator, said that final year students at MEC have won 300 plus offers from more than 35 companies by the end of May. About 95.4 per cent of students had earned pre placement offers from the who is who of the Indian IT industry by May last year, indicating a steady campus placement record.
But the annual pay packet on offer seems to have gone down this time compared to last year indicating the slowdown in various sectors. BPCL has offered the highest annual pay packet of Rs. 10 lakh this time while the average salary being offered is Rs. 4.2 lakh. Last year, Micro Air Max soft had offered the highest annual salary of Rs. 16 lakh. The entry level pay was then Rs. 4.8 lakh. Jayasree, faculty member and placement officer, said that about 96 per cent got placed last year, with more than 50 students securing multiple job offers last year. Devassia, Principal of MEC, said that the support from the alumni was instrumental in bringing the companies to the campus.
